Often overlooked during household maintenance, the chimney is very important to the safety of your house. Our main goal is to keep homeowners in the Tulsa area safe, and one way we accomplish this goal is through chimney inspections. The Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) has three levels of chimney inspections, each varying on thoroughness and necessity. Read about them below, then give us a call to schedule an inspection!

The 3 Levels of Chimney Inspections

During this inspection, we examine portions of the chimney such as the flue, cap, crown, firebox, smoke chamber, and flashing. We check for hazards such as creosote buildup, cracks, and animal nests that could cause problems. Additionally, we ensure that the flue liner is smooth and that the cap is sealed tightly. They are necessary if you have kept up with regular maintenance and upkeep, and they are included in your standard cleanings and sweepings. Additionally, they do not require special tools or equipment.

Level 2 inspections are more thorough than Level 1 counterpart. They use video cameras to examine portions of the chimney that are unseen to the naked eye for any structural damage. Level 2 inspections are required when the following events happen:

  • During transfer of property ownership
  • After updating any appliances or parts of the chimney system
  • If there is suspected damage after a hazard such as a fire

Level 3 inspections are the most severe and thorough of all the inspections outlined by the CSIA. They are required if we discover problems requiring major repairs or rebuilds. We must open or demolish parts of the chimney to determine the extent of the damage. Additionally, they are the most costly of all the inspections.

Why are Chimney Inspections Important?

Chimney inspections are important for many reasons, but the primary one is safety. Chimney inspections significantly reduce the risk of a fire. Additionally, we can spot any problems that are either a current or future hazard, and remedy them before expensive and destructive damage occurs. We want homeowners to feel at ease as they relax by the fireplace this winter. We can guarantee peaceful and easy operation of your system after one of our professionally trained and certified technicians has completed an inspection.
